Tucked in the tall pines, surrounded by lakes and rivers, stretched out below starry skies sits St. Germain, Wisconsin. This outdoor and wilderness lovers paradise is a short enough drive to remain easily reachable, but far enough outside of major metros to truly feel like you’re escaping into the woods.
Anglers and paddlers will love the seemingly endless lake, pond and river options found around St. Germain—from the lakeside resorts to the quiet shores where you’ll have room to spread out. The Heart of Vilas County Trail awaits cyclists looking to explore a new path, and top quality ATV and snowmobile trails await visitors looking for a rush, no matter the season. But, St Germain isn’t just filled with picnic tables and campgrounds, there are some remarkable local restaurants, bars and breweries ready to entertain whatever appetite you may bring to the table.
For more than a century, St. Germain has been the “Home of the Authentic Northwoods Experience.” Conveniently located between Eagle River and Minocqua on Highway 70, St. Germain is surrounded by pristine forests and some of the finest fishing and boating lakes in the world. St. Germain offers unique opportunities in Wisconsin’s scenic Northwoods for families, anglers, hiking and biking enthusiasts, winter enthusiasts, winter sports lovers and those who simply want to get away. At the southern end of the Heart of Vilas County trail, a 52-mile paved biking path, St. Germain is also home to Wisconsin’s largest snowmobile club, which maintains the best snowmobile club trails found in the state! Spend some time at the St. Germain Golf Course, carved into a dense forest. Bring your binoculars to see abundant birds and wildlife or rent a canoe or kayak and paddle through some great scenery in northern Wisconsin. Looking at the big map of St. Germain on the big map, you can kind of see where it is centrally located in northern Wisconsin or up north Wisconsin. So St. Germain has 34 acres of land and about 6 acres of water. But some really great lakes are in St. Germain township. You've got Big St. Germain Lake and Little St Germain lake, which is known for all of the fingers. You've got Moon Lake, Lost Lake, Found Lake and Lake Content, all really great recreational bodies of water. And again, St. Germain is very central. For a hike through billowing trees that provide a ton of great shade, make sure to check out the Awassa Nature Preserve & Hiking Trail. This is an easy beginner trail that meanders through 230 acres of mature pines, oaks, maples and balsam fir. You've got the Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail, known as one of the best ways to explore Vilas County on two wheels, the Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail system has two different segments that roll through St. Germain. The heart trail system offers more than 52 miles of paved trails. You've got the Fern Ridge Trail, you've got the Shannon Lake Trail and of course the Snowmobile trails. They're even known for their own Snowmobile Hall of Fame in St. Germain, Wisconsin.
So people like the area because it's very centrally located. They even have their own zoning and mapping because a lot of this is where a lot of people first came up here to vacation. So again, you're right between the 51 and the 45 north. So for hospitals you've got Minocqua and Eagle River Hospital here. You've got the airport in Eagle River, Conover, you've got Minocqua Airport and then, of course, the Wasau Airport is where a lot of us, if you're traveling a little bit farther and wider. So you're centrally located for hospitals, for airports, for travels and you have for Scotty Camps grocery store, which is right in St. Germain, Wisconsin. So just a couple of great reasons if you are looking for a second home, main home, or primary residence, St. Germain is a great place to start looking.
